Byron and Lawson tied the knot this past weekend in New York City at the Glass Houses in Chelsea. I met these two through Katie at Quirk Gallery in Richmond, which is where Byron and Lawson are from. We started the afternoon in their amazing upper West Side apartment with their two dogs Mouse and Hero. We then headed down to Chelsea where we took some portraits in the neighborhood. The Glass Houses are right around the corner from the studio so that made things easy.
The ceremony was one of the best ceremonies I’ve ever been witness to. In fact I was tearing up and it was starting to make it difficult to photograph. After the awesome ceremony there was a nice cocktail hour with great views of the sunset over the Hudson River. Everyone headed downstairs for dinner where a low country boil was served. No one was allowed to eat with utensils and they provided aprons for everyone to wear. Something VERY different for a New York City wedding! We then headed back upstairs to the 21st floor for dancing, drinking and phootboothing! It was such a great night and I feel so honored to have been a part of their celebration.
Again a huge thanks to Ellen for coming up from Richmond to shoot this wedding with me! I feel a good co-shooting relationship forming!
I just wanted to add this, after reading all the lovely comments and just the general happiness of this day it makes me unbelievable sad that there are people in this country who do not believe that two people who love each other can get married. I’m so happy I was able to be a part of this celebration for them and look forward to more. I just hope that it’s something we will allow for everyone who loves someone in the future of this country.

Congratulations to both of you! Happy day!

one of the happiest days of my life…
What a wonderful day for our two favorite New Yorkers!!! Thank you so much for including us!!
I want this one day. Thank you for believing. As a gay man I know so many people, gay and straight, who don’t think it’s possible for two men to be in love and spend the rest of their lives together. Cheers to you for upholding a time-honored tradition and reminding me that it’s still out there waiting for me. Truly inspiring.
I am so happy for you both. You will live longer and love deeper as a married couple. Speaking as one of the many people who love and admire you, you are each wonderful. But together you are AWESOME. Happiness knows no bounds.
I wear killer shoes every day, (partly) in your honor.
