strange obsession

So the past couple weeks I’ve had this really strange obsession with mountaineering. Been reading a lot about it and looking up videos and such online. It’s mostly been an interest in the high-altitude climbing. It’s weird because it’s not something I would ever do, I just find it fascinating that people do this to themselves and their bodies.

I bought this book about the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster where 8 people died on the mountain in one day. 15 people died in that season, which is something like 2 or 3 months long. I mean I get that it’s a thrill and a lifelong dream, I’m obviously finding it interesting to read and watch, but it’s just so risky. If I was married to some guy that wanted to go do this I would have a really hard time getting behind that idea.

I’m done nerding out now, but you should take the time to watch this video I posted below. It’s really well done, and while they didn’t climb Everest they were in the Everest region and all of those mountains are big. Much bigger than anything in this country. Also the two guys are total babes.

  1. I think you’ll love the show “The Neistat Brothers” it is on HBO, it’s incredible, and in one episode they hike mount kilimanjaro, it’s really amazing to watch.

  2. I had a bunch of friends that really got into it in Kyrgyz (the country is about 80% mountainous). I started getting into hiking and backpacking but left before really getting into it. I had friends who tried to climb Peak Lenin, but couldn’t make it because of the weather at about 6500 meters. I want to start getting into it again.
