Liz + Matt… a little Richmond love story

Apparently the first thing I ever said to Liz was “Hi I’m Karen, want to go to the river?” Liz lived across the hallway from me my freshman year of college in the dorms. Liz, Carley (my roommate) and I had a great time living on the 10th floor of “the Cabin.” Liz and I have been friends pretty much ever since, drifting apart here and there but remaining pretty close friends through many ups and downs in life. There was a time a few years ago where Liz was sleeping at my apartment almost every night, I can’t really remember why though… maybe we were just hanging out at too many bars. That’s probably it.

In the summer of 2009 we moved into what will forever be known simply as “Parkberry.” Almost right after (within days) we moved into that apartment Liz was mugged and shot in the leg in the Fan not too far from our apartment. When I arrived at the emergency room that night she was pretty much laughing, out of shock or because she was maybe still drunk I’ll never know. Despite everything that happened she crutched out of the ER four hours later still holding the bag that her mugger failed to pry from her. A few weeks (maybe not even that long?) after we moved in she met Matt, our neighbor across the street. I remember her coming home the night she met him all giddy. Liz was giddy about boys though so this wasn’t too strange. I think in the year and half we lived together she slept at our apartment maybe 5 times? Needless to say these two are absolutely stupidly made for each other. The ridiculous levels are off the charts.

Even though I’m not shooting their wedding (Lindsey is!) I was very glad we were able to spend this time taking these photographs together. I’m glad I still get to be a part of the wedding day somehow with photography. Can’t wait for November!

Many thanks to Ellen for helping so much with this shoot! Couldn’t have done it without her!
